| The little village of Goleen, on
the Mizen peninsula, has the sea lapping at its
skirts. The tiny harbour is cradled in the rocky
coastline and all around the typical rounded
"mountains" of West Cork raise their
domed pates to peer above the horizon. Opposite
Goleen village church is the tiny old forge,
transformed now into a charming holiday home. The
delightful interior will captivate you
immediately, with its wooden floors and cosy
bedrooms and a kitchen to die For.
If you can drag yourself away from this little
piece of paradise, there is plenty to see in the
area, including standing stones, stone circles
and the stunning golden sweep of the strand at
Barlycove. Walkers and nature lovers alike will
revel in exploring the farthest reaches of Mizen
Head.
The excellent Herons Cove restaurant,
with its gourmet food and its location at the
waters edge, will surely tempt you to walk
the five minutes from Forge Cottage. And when you
return to the little cottage, you will wonder if
this is the house that was made of gingerbread.
It certainly looks good enough to eat!
